Winchester Model 255 Serial Number
There is probably some kernel of truth to all of them. But the fact remains; there is no original, single, totally accurate database of serial numbers from 1866 forward that we are aware of. But perhaps these pages can help you somewhat in your research.
For sale is a Winchester Model 255 lever-action rifle in .22 LR. Serial number- 287097. This rifle is in good condition with only some dings and scratches on the barrel, receiver, and stock. Everything functions without issue and would make a great plinking, youth rifle, or pest rifle. Only Winchester could have built it. The rifleman's rifle. Winchester's Model 255 22 caliber lever action is the direct descendant of the most famous Winchester of them all the Model 1873 "the Gun that won the West" The Winchester model 255 is a hammer-less lever action rifle produced in the 60s to 1970. This lever-action was chambered in the .22 Magnum or the .22 WMR caliber and has a tube magazine with a capacity of 11-rounds.
